Over the past 5 years, Hong has worked on international business development in the US, Israel, Japan, and Latin America. He has engaged with national and local governments, engineering consultants, construction firms, law firms, and international banks to ensure the construction and operation of more than 2.3GW of solar, wind farms, and energy storage plants.

Hong worked at Constellation and Exelon through an internship to advance competitive and deregulated electric markets and help develop Exelon Generation’s early wind and energy storage projects. As a consultant at WoodMac, Hong provided critical market intelligence and strategy that directed new investment from Japanese and European firms into clean energy projects in the Americas.

At Invenergy, Hong contributed to securing a long-term partnership with the second largest utility in Colombia and PPA contracts for 500MW solar projects. In addition, Hong developed 200MW solar and energy storage projects in Israel, the Bahamas, and the US. Over the past 3 years, Hong developed and consolidated Chile, leading negotiations with multiple local developers, and successfully secured a $30M investment from EDPR to acquire more than 1.6GW of wind and solar projects. Hong led EDPR to participate in Chile’s national 2021 PPA tender and secured more than 500GWh/yr. in contracted PPAs with 21 utilities. This allowed EDPR to gain a strong presence in Chile and the Southern cone. Over the past 6 months, Hong established a local office in Santiago with 22 full-time employees and finished the development of EDPR’s first wind farm in Chile.

Hong is now leading EDPR’s energy storage business development, M&A, and strategy. He is an economist graduate from the University of Chicago and holds an MPP degree and a bachelor’s in Finance from Berea College. He has Chinese and Latino roots, is fluent in English and Spanish, and is proficient in Mandarin.
