NYSERDA Build-Ready - Unlocking Difficult Sites

State agencies have proven capable of becoming a channel for renewable energy projects at lands that would likely be avoided by private developers. Underutilized sites, including former commercial and industrial sites, landfills and brownfields, are often perceived as being difficult to develop. There is often a history of environmental contamination or cleanup and long-term monitoring through engineering and/or institutional controls. Worse, the sites are left in states of disrepair, abandoned, and in tax delinquent status, potentially in excess of millions of dollars, creating a greater burden on the community. The purpose of this poster is to convey the successes of the NYSERDAs Build-Ready Program which continues to originate, develop, and auction renewable generation assets at tough sites, including former industrial sites, landfills and brownfields to the private sector while working closely with host communities to turn underperforming lands into revenue generating assets.
