Gillian Black is the Director of NYSERDA’s Build-Ready program where he leads a team devoted to developing renewable energy projects on brownfields throughout New York State. Prior to joining NYSERDA Gillian served as Director of Project Development at Eden Renewables where he focused on Community Solar and Battery Energy Storage Systems in New York’s Capital District. Leading up to his role with Eden his primary focus was solar PV project development including EPC duties for several east coast firms where he designed and/or installed residential, C/I and municipal solar PV systems. Gillian was a NABCEP Certified PV Installation and Technical Sales Professional and has built projects in NY, CT, MD, VA and DC.
Before embarking on his career in renewable energy Gillian garnered twelve years of experience in project management, product development, team leadership & development and client management in new media and advertising — with time served at a boutique advertising firm as well as consulting for a Big Four firm. Beginning his career as an Outward Bound Course Instructor in South Africa, he continued pairing high adventure activities with both education and business executive training in New York. During this time Gillian had the opportunity to work in multiple countries with a diverse client population gathering many skills in both facilitation and leadership along the way.
Gillian earned his MBA from Rensselaer’s Lally School of Management & Technology (with an emphasis in Technology Commercialization and Entrepreneurship), a Certificate in New Media Studies from the Vancouver Film School and a BA in English from the University of Oregon. Gillian lives in Saratoga Springs, NY with his wife, kids, and dogs.
