Pros and Connections: How to Achieve Reliable Structural Joints in PV Mounting Systems

Solar PV structural joints are prolific and a common point of both structural and bonding failures. While the solar PV industry is growing rapidly, it has not yet adopted and applied known engineering and assembly best practices for structural joints in PV mounting systems. This presentation will provide an overview of the three efforts – the Solar Energy Technology Office (SETO) PV Fastened Joint Research Project; the American Society of Civil Engineers’ (ASCE) Solar PV Structures Manual of Practice (MOP); revisions to the Underwriters Laboratories’ standard for PV mounting system safety (UL 2703); and the timelines associated with implementation.
