Tanuj serves as Strategic Advisor for Carbon Free Electricity in the Office of the Administrator at the General Services Administration, a US Federal government agency responsible for delivering real estate, acquisition, and technology services Federal government operations He is currently on loan from the White House Council on Environmental Quality, where he leads carbon free electricity policy and initiatives for the Office of the Federal Chief Sustainability Officer per Executive Order 14057 "Catalyzing Clean Energy Industries and Jobs through Federal Sustainability," and advises on electricity policy issues across the Executive Office of the President.
Prior to joining the White House in January 2022 Tanuj was Vice President, Market Innovation at Uplight, a leading SaaS solutions provider for leading edge utility-run energy efficiency, electric vehicle, and demand flexibility programs. Earlier in his career Tanuj has served as Chief Strategy Officer of the Smart Electric Power Alliance, ran the commercial portfolio of IHS Markit’s North American Power, Gas, and Renewables business, was a wind energy project developer for EDPR, and served as an energy industry strategy consultant with McKinsey. From 2011 to 2012 he served in the cabinet of Governor John Hickenlooper as director of the Colorado Energy Office.
Tanuj started his career as an engineer in the chemical industry, and later served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Jamaica. He holds a mechanical engineer degree from the University of Texas at Austin and a masters in business administration from Harvard Business School.
