Lara has been with PNNL for over 24 years and has a strong background in environmental assessment, environmental permitting, community engagement and outreach, and technology commercialization. Recent research and project management has been focused on community technical assistance efforts such as Energy Storage for Social Equity Technical Assistance, Energy Improvements in Rural Areas Technical Assistance, Hydropower Community Engagement, and Offshore Energy Safety Institute 2.0 research road mapping efforts. Lara has planned and executed many multi-national, multi-disciplinary workshops and meetings with energy-related stakeholders for a variety of sponsors focusing on multiple energy systems including marine energy, offshore wind, hydropower, and Carbon Capture and Storage.
Lara has more than 15 years of experience with National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) compliance for the large energy project development and has contributed to multiple environmental reviews and subsequent draft and final Environmental Impact Statements, Environmental Assessments, and Biological Assessments. She earned a B.S. in Environmental Science from the Huxley School of Environmental Science at Western Washington University, and an M.S. in Environmental Science with a focus on Restoration Ecology from University of Washington. Lara lives in Port Angeles with her husband, and works from the PNNL Sequim Marine and Coastal Research Laboratory.
