Kevin has held various roles with the Tribe, his responsibilities include managing all aspects of the Tribe’s wholesale electric utility, and the development of economic opportunities related to renewable energy. He led the efforts to establish the first Tribal electric utility in the Midwest and worked on the team that created the Tribes first SBA certified 8(a) entity, Bakinaw Federal Contracting. He was also instrumental in building the Tribe’s first venture capital investments and expanding opportunities for economic growth off-Reservation.
Kevin has also led the efforts at Migizi to build a robust due diligence process for evaluating new business opportunities, acquisition targets, and economic development investments. Part of the process involves collection of regional economic data, evaluating the Tribe’s competitive advantage, and facilitating strategic planning sessions for both Migizi and its various business units.
Prior to joining the Tribe, Kevin was the founder of a strategic consulting company focused on venture and startup investing in Michigan. He helped several new companies develop go-to-market strategies and commercialization plans. Kevin also assisted in raising capital and negotiating with investors, building term sheets, and helping companies create the proper governance and corporate infrastructure to become successful entities.
Kevin has spent considerable time in the financial services industry, he was the Senior Portfolio Manager for a fixed-income asset management company in Chicago. His responsibilities were to manage the assets of several mutual funds and private accounts of institutional investors. During his tenure within the financial markets, Kevin has amassed significant experience in trading, valuation, and management of financial assets. He holds a degree in economics from Michigan State University.
Kevin is currently serving on the Board of Directors of MTERA, the Board of Trustees of the Samaritas Foundation, and is part of the VentureWell Ascend Energy & Mobility Accelerator program as a mentor-in-residence.
