Dual nameplate KVA transformers for PV applications using natural ester instead of mineral oil has a positive effect on environment impact of solar plants, in addition to providing operational improvements. The use of natural ester insulating liquid can assist with CO2 reduction targets, increase operational safety and allow a transformer with higher loads at higher temperatures. The adoption of new design of a dual nameplate KVA transformers for PV applications using high temperature insulating materials, including natural ester, creates the possibility to the OEM explore the high-temperature thermal class of materials to compact the transformer design (reducing dimensions and weights), optimizing, consequently, the size of the total central inverter stations. Typically, the transformer selection is based on its peak load capacity, which is defined as the amount of output power that can be delivered without exceeding nameplate temperature rise. High-temperature thermal class of materials can help the transformer to support higher peak loads. It’s important to move the technical development of new equipment in the PV plants together with a sustainable green development, reducing the CO2 emissions. The use of natural ester insulating liquid in the transformers, an insulating liquid non-toxic, biodegradable and with high fire point, reduces the potential impact of accidents, damages, leakages, avoiding potential soil/water contamination by means of the usage of a 100% renewable source insulating liquid. At the same time, the new design of transformers able to sustain higher peaks loads at higher temperatures without reduces the life spam of equipment. The poster will present a material interesting also to non-technicians, being a topic part of the green development and environmental sustainability of the PV plants. It will conclude that the use of natural ester filled high temperature design transformers in the PV market has technical operational improvements with positive effect on environment impact.
