This year for their 11th SPI/RE+ NEC workshop, Bill Brooks and Sean White will present both Energy Storage System (ESS) and PV topics, and include interconnections, utility-scale PV/ESS, distributed generation PV/ESS, bidirectional EV charging, future predictions and more exciting updates.
This will be Bill and Sean's first NEC workshop since their book PV and the NEC 3rd Edition (2023 NEC Edition) has been released, which is based on the 2023 NEC.
Here are a few topics they will cover:
-NEC Articles 690 PV Systems, 691 Large-Scale PV, 706 Energy Storage Systems, 705 Interconnections will be emphasized -Introducing official PV "string" circuits in the 2023 NEC! You can now officially call it a string! -Bill was instrumental in writing the 2023 NEC and is currently working on the 2026 NEC, so 2026 NEC insight will be prophesied (knowing the future will also help you pick stocks). -Implications of the new UL 3741 listing for Rapid Shutdown. -NEC 705.13 Energy Management Systems, which can be a work around for the limitations of load side connections in 705.12 and supply-side connections in 705.11. -690.8(A)(2) Circuits Connected to the Input of Electric Power Converters, which allows us to use the maximum input current of an inverter rather than the current of the PV for sizing wires and equipment. -When to use NEC 706 and not 480 for ESS. -Making sense of the different UL listings for ESS.
Understanding the Code by listening to people that write the Code and books on the Code, can save you magnitudes more dough than the price of this workshop.
