National Solar Activist Network & Policy Coordinator Solar United Neighbors Washington, District of Columbia, United States
Background, Description, Delivery and Learning Objective There are now more than three million rooftop solar customers in the United States.. That number is projected to double by 2025. But most states, even progressive ones, have significant policy barriers. From legislated limits for rooftop solar, to siting, to permitting, to outdated tariff regimes, to interconnection backlogs—there are real barriers that threaten this projected growth and harm installers’ bottom lines.
This is why it is vital to harness the energy of solar owners. They are unique. Many solar owners are politically conservative, or independent, and live in conservative political districts. They are farmers, business owners, and retirees. Many go solar for reasons other than protecting the environment. Research has shown that solar owners are more civically engaged and active than non-solar customers. These characteristics make them an important constituency to decision-makers and a critical messengers for the solar industry.
The poster will provide steps installers can take to integrate solar advocacy into their communications with customers. It will show viewers how to demonstrate the importance solar policies have on their customers’ ability to go solar and have it be a worthwhile financial benefit. This is a critical part of strengthening solar sales in the short term and down the road.
