Ellen Bohon is the Director of Global Teams for the U.S. Department of Commerce’s International Trade Administration (ITA) – U.S. Commercial Service. In this role, she directs an enterprise-wide program and 22 teams that serve as the Department’s primary vehicle for coordinated, large-scale export promotion strategies and services across major industries and regions.
Ellen has nearly 25 years of experience in trade policy and promotion serving in various leadership roles within the International Trade Administration. Previously, she served ITA's Director of the Office of Health and Information Technology, where she and her team executed U.S. trade policies and strategies supporting the global competitiveness of the U.S. health and technology sectors. In 2017, she served as the Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for Manufacturing overseeing a staff of 50+ trade professionals to execute programs to boost U.S. manufacturing exports. In previous assignments, Ellen led the Trade Agreement Secretariat, serving as the National Director overseeing the impartial administration of the dispute settlement provisions of 14 U.S. free trade agreements with 20 trading partners impacting $12+ billion in trade. Prior to this role, she served as an Industry Analyst and Team Leader in the Office of Energy and Environmental Industries implementing the Presidentially mandated Renewable Energy and Environmental Export Initiatives. Ellen began her ITA career as an International Trade Specialist coordinating trade missions and international buyer delegations with the U.S. & Foreign Commercial Service.
Ellen holds a Master of Arts in International Commerce & Policy from George Mason University and Bachelor of Arts from the University of California at Davis.
