Senior Attorney
Southern Environmental Law Center
Chapel Hill, North Carolina, United States
Nick Jimenez has been with the Southern Environmental Law Center (SELC) since 2017, and within SELC's Solar Initiative, Nick leads North Carolina’s solar work. In solar-related proceedings at the North Carolina Utilities Commission (NCUC), he represents environmental and clean energy advocacy nonprofits like the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy. One major biennial event on his calendar is the avoided cost proceeding, which sets the rate that independent clean-energy developers are paid for energy they sell to utilities. Making sure those rates are fair is key to ensuring a speedy and equitable transition to clean energy.
Nick also works on SELC’s climate efforts in North Carolina. He is a member of the SELC team advocating for a quicker and cheaper transition to clean energy in a major climate proceeding at the NCUC, and he is also part of the SELC team that successfully petitioned the state Environmental Management Commission to direct the Department of Environmental Quality to begin adopting our proposed rule linking North Carolina with the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative. Nick also engages on state and federal litigation key to who provides our energy and how.
