Brenor Brophy joined Plug Power in 2020 as VP of Project Development tasked with building the first generation of commercial-scale green-hydrogen production plants and bringing 500 metric tons of capacity online by 2025. Plug's first commercial plant in Georgia is entering service and construction is underway for plants in New York, Texas & Louisana and projects in advamced stages of development in California and Arizona. Recently Brenor has taken this first hand experience of green hydrogen plant design and construction to the role of VP of Products for Green Hydrogen Generation, bringing the next generation of large scale PEM electrolyzers and support equipment to market.
Brenor brings over 30 years of industry and management experience from the renewable energy, materials, equipment, and semiconductor industries. Prior to Plug Power he was Senior Technologist at First Solar, where he initiated and led development of the first utility-scale solar-powered green-hydrogen project in North America.
Brenor joined First Solar as part of the successful acquisition of Enki Technology, a materials startup he founded in 2009 and led as CEO until 2013 and then as CTO until the acquisition in 2016. Enki developed a durable high performance anti-reflection coating that is now ships on all of First Solar’s modules. Prior to founding Enki Technology, he was an EIR at Crosslink Capital, CEO of Nanonexus, a MEMS based semiconductor equipment startup and he spent 14 years at Cypress Semiconductor.
Brenor trained as an Electrical Engineer at the Waterford Institute of Technology in Ireland. He has 24 issued patents covering a range of topics related to materials, semiconductor design, architecture, and manufacturing.
