Katie Skende is a Director of Grid Services at Stem Inc, focused on managing Stem’s behind-the-meter and front-of-the-meter energy storage assets in wholesale markets and programs across the United States and Canada, delivering millions of dollars in value to Stem’s customers. In this role she has ensured the successful operation of hundreds of battery storage systems, configured as virtual power plants (VPPs). The programs she works on include system peak reduction, wholesale market participation, capacity market participation, and demand response which provide benefits to customers, utilities, ISOs, and asset owners. Prior to joining Stem, she worked for GE Power for 5.5 years in their Edison Engineering and Development program, and later as a Lead Performance Engineer working on heavy-duty gas turbine performance engineering. Katie has a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from North Carolina State University.
