Ben Kaun serves as President of CMBlu Energy, Inc. (CMBlu) commercializing Organic SolidFlow™ battery storage technology in the United States. Ben founded the subsidiary of CMBlu Energy AG, a German company, in 2022. He is responsible for the general management CMBlu Energy, Inc., and commercialization strategy of its Organic SolidFlow™ battery energy storage systems.
Ben has over fifteen years of professional experience leading the exploration of grid-connected energy storage. Prior to CMBlu, Ben was the Program Manager, Energy Storage and Distributed Generation, at the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), from 2017-2022. Prior to that role, Ben had other project engineering and project management roles at EPRI from 2010-2017, where he began multiple major projects and industry collaborations, such as the Storage Value Estimation Tool (StorageVET) and the Energy Storage Integration Council (ESIC). An early version of StorageVET was used in the proceeding that resulted in California Public Utility Commission’s regulatory decision to set energy storage procurement targets in 2013. Ben also served 2 terms on the Energy Storage Association board of directors (now merged with ACPA) from 2013-2017.
Prior to his role at EPRI, Ben served marketing and general management roles for Inventek Corporation (now called Rolled-Ribbon Battery Company) from 2008-2009. Ben also worked in battery engineering roles for electric vehicle makers Tesla Motors and Mission Motors from 2007-2008.
Ben earned a Master of Science in Management Science & Engineering from the Stanford University and a BS in General Engineering from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
