Jon Ness, PE, is a Principal Engineer with Matrix Engineering Consultants, focusing on product development and machine design. Jon has over 33 years of engineering and design experience with technical expertise in designing and validating dynamically loaded bolted joints. Jon has consulted in investigating bolted joint failures, including fastener testing, and participated in research projects on preload relaxation in bolted joints. He has taught numerous Failure Modes, Effects Analysis, and Bolted Joint Design classes. He has spoken at multiple PVRW and SEIA events and is a member of the DOE-SETO Funded Research project titled; ‘Maturing Solar PV Racking and Module Mounting Critical Bolted Joint Technologies for LCOE Reductions and Increased Reliability.’ A licensed engineer in Minnesota, Jon is a current member of the UL2703 Standards Technical Panel, a contributor to the ASCE Solar Structures MOP, and a Certified Fastener Specialist through the Fastener Training Institute.
