Evolving Applications of BESS for the Electric grid

Battery Energy Storage Solutions (BESS) are growing in applications due to immediate and future expected changes in the electric grid. We will discuss couple of global BESS deployment projects that provided diverse applications to the electric grid. Hybridization of PV and wind with BESS to provide advanced grid services are preferred configurations. These include microgrid and grid-connected applications for enabling lower costs, enhanced reliability and resilience, and renewable smoothing. Advanced functionalities such black start for weak grids, seamless switching between grid connected and grid isolated. We will also discuss combination of industry-leading advanced software platforms to combine BESS, RE, and substation automation and controls that enable aforementioned functionalities.
