The Role of the Voltage Optimizer in DC Microgrid Applications

Solar (PV) is a key component of microgrids, nanogrids and virtually any renewable energy generation system. Pulling the maximum energy from a resource is critical and methods have evolved to extract that maximum from solar arrays that may be installed under less than ideal conditions such as shading, soiling, temperature gradients and very variable orientations of the solar panels. This presentation provides an overview of some of these solutions, to help formulate the optimum choice of component.
